Habitat for Humanity

Debbie and I spent the month of October in the Carolinas. We stopped first at Tom Johnson's RV in Marion NC for replacement of one of the A/C units on our motor home as well as some other maintenance items. We then went to Woodruff SC to help my brother Floyd with some renovations to his rental house there. We finally got
to Rock Hill, SC to see our kids. We had a good three weeks staying at Ebenezer state park and visiting with Mark & Amber and Mitch & Kim. We especially enjoyed being able to keep our G'daughter Jordan. Debbie had some back problems so we were unable to keep her as much as we wanted.
At the end of October Al & Anitarae Robinson, Sower friends, joined us in Rock Hill. We visited the Billy Graham library and saw a show at the Christian dinner theater Narroway in Fort Mill, SC. We then headed out
together to work at a Habitat project near Charleston, SC. This is the first Habitat project we have worked although the Robinsons have worked one before.

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon at the construction site where four new homes are being built. After considerable efforts we finally got our rigs into the side yard of one of the new houses and were able to
connect to limited electrical power and strong sulfur water (yuk). We are about 20 miles from Charleston on Johns Island so we don't run to the store every day.
Al & I have really enjoyed the work. We have done framing prebuilds, onsite framing work, siding and soffit installation. Debbie and Anitarae haven't had to work which hasn't seemed to bother them too much. Debbie
did come out one day to help with siding work but decided she was more hindrance than help! There may be painting to be done soon which they may enjoy doing.
Each day is different. Aside from the 8 or so paid Habitat staff who are here most every day volunteers show up in random numbers. There have been about a dozen local folks who come out to help for one day a week or whenever they can. We've also had 20 or so Air Force folks from Charleston who were helping for a couple of days. We've gotten to meet most of the people who are going to buy the houses we are working on. They must invest 500 hours of "sweat" equity in construction of a Habitat home. This is a great cause with very visable benefits. We look forward to doing another Habitat project but perhaps when other "Carvanners" are scheduled.

Sometime around the 24th of November we will be heading for Hawthorne, Fl to work on a Sower project, Child Evangelism Fellowship. We are looking forward to be at and learning of that ministry which we haven't worked before. Nothing scheduled for January yet. We are waiting to see if Floyd needs help to install a new roof on his Cocoa, Fl house.
We hope and pray that your life is as healthy and happy as ours is.

America's Keswick

We are working at America's Keswick, Whiting, New Jersey. This is a conference center and an addiction recovery center for men. Keswick is celebrating it's 111 year. You can check out their website: http://www.americaskeswick.org/ This a truly a remarkable place. We are enjoying getting to know the men and hearing their testimonies. God is working miracles here. The first weekend here we were able to participate

in the last conference of the summer. We met lots of interesting and friendly people and enjoyed the conference speakers.

We are having a great time working and playing with Al and Anitarae Robinson. The men are remodeling a house and the women are helping with meals, working in the thrift shop, working on mailings, etc. We've also played tennis and participated in water aerobics.

We will be heading to South Carolina for October. Jordan is already asking when we are returning. And, of course, we love hearing that.

Kim & Jordan

Camp Shoshanah Keeseville, NY

Debbie and I have been working at Camp Shoshanah in the Adirondacks of NY since the first of July. This is a Christian camp which focuses on the teaching of scripture from a Jewish perspective. The founder and most of the teaching staff are Messianic Jews who have accepted Jesus as their Jewish Messiah. It is very informative to hear the Bible teaching with Jewish traditions/culture taken into account.

The Sower men have been working on a new 10,000 square ft. dining room/kitchen/classroom building. I've been wiring the various fire alarm systems and the A/C systems. Lots of wire. We'll be installing sheet rock shortly.

Debbie and the other Sower ladies have been working in the kitchen to help serve the campers who are here this summer. The camp ends August 8 so the cooking will be completed but the ladies will then need to clean cabins and do some painting. We'll miss having three meals a day provided for us for the remainder of the Aug. project.

Our daughter Kimberly and g'daughter Jordan were up for a week between the July and August projects. Had a great time. Debbie took them to Massena to visit friends there for several days.

We'll be heading to America's Kessick in NJ for September. We've not been there before. It's is a rehabilitation facility for men who have drug and alcohol addictions. Everyone says it is a very worthwhile project.

Spring/summer in the Carolinas

We arrived in Rock Hill, SC on April 29th to visit our children and grand daughter. We had several doctors' appointments to make. Everything checked out ok except that Debbie has a spot on her nose which was biopsied and it was a basal cell cancer. She has further surgery on June 5 to remove any additional cancerous cells on her nose. We spent the first 2 1/2 weeks in our daughter's driveway and the moved out to Ebenezer State Park. It is really nice here and we'll probably stay here until the end of June. The only problem is that it is really getting hot!!! We'll head up to Camp Shoshanah for July and August hoping it will be cooler in the Adirondacks.

In addition to staying busy with doctors' appointments we have had fun with our grand daughter Jordan. Also been working on several projects at our son Mark's house. We just drywalled his garage now the mudding has to be done.

Lives Under Construction

The Walls are currently in Lampe, MO working at a Lives Under Construction Boy's Ranch. We are near the middle of our 3 week stint here. There are eight Sower couples here this month. The men are working on renovations to a recently purchased building about 3 miles from the ranch. They will be using it for a thrift store to make some money off donated items they can not use. The ladies have been helping in the kitchen and painting. Some of them will come to the thrift store tomorrow to help set up shelving. We have been into Branson 2-3 times each weekend for the past 2 weekends. Saw the Jim Staffard show and a Passion Play called the Promise. We have also been to church both Sundays in Branson. Most of the theatres are closed on Sunday and many have church services in their buildings. The musical talent is of course great for the services and many of the attendees are performers at the shows. The sermans have also been good. It's a little cold here, however. Down to freezing last night and we had snow flurries yesterday.
We plan to head back to SC around April 25 as we have doctors' appointments the first week of May. Looking forward to seeing our kids and grand kid!
